Do I Need a Lawyer?

No Web page can set forth every instance when you might need a lawyer, and certainly this Web page does not attempt to do so. However, to prevent problems from occurring in the future, you usually need to consult a lawyer in matters involving real estate transactions, such as buying or selling a house, making a Will or planning your estate, personal injury matters, starting or buying a business, in cases of accidents, or cases where your rights have been violated by a governmental agency.

You would also need to consult a lawyer if you were arrested or accused of a crime, if you have been sued, if you are unable to resolve issues with a government agency, if someone does not perform services or work or fails to honor a guaranty or warranty, or if someone refuses to pay you funds that you believe you are entitled to receive.

If you think you might need a lawyer, then you probably do need a lawyer.

Mediation

With the ever-increasing cost of litigation, parties are seeking ways to avoid the expenses and delays involved in resolving their disputes in the courts. The State of Texas has adopted the Texas Alternative Dispute Resolution Act. There are many forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution from arbitration to mediation to moderated settlement conferences, mini trails, summary jury trails, and nonbonding arbitration.

Mike has undergone the training required under the Texas Alternative Dispute Resolution Act to handle mediations. Mediation is a forum in which an impartial person who has been trained in alternative dispute resolution procedures facilitates a communication between the parties to promote reconciliation, settlement, or understanding amongst the parties. The mediator does not render any decision or provide any evaluation of the cases. The mediator facilitates the exchange of information and settlement alternatives between the parties.

Mediation may be the economical way for you to solve your minor disputes or your complex litigation. Mediation does not foreclose your right to go forward in the courts if the matter is not resolved to your satisfaction.
